How to use Copilot effectively in Non-Profits

The key to getting results from any AI system is the question you ask the system to generate a response.  This question is called the prompt and how this is written will determine the quality of the results you get back.

If you have a Copilot license already you get access to the Copilot labs which are found here.  These include specific use examples and prompts to try which can be filtered by Office app.

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet and cannot access the labs, Microsoft have a number of generally available resources on creating prompts for Copilot.  A helpful breakdown can be found here and we set out our tips for getting the best results from the Copilot system below.

Crafting Effective Prompts for Copilot for Microsoft 365

Understanding the Objective: Before creating a prompt, clearly define the goal you want to achieve with Copilot’s assistance. Whether it’s drafting an email, creating a social media post, or generating a report, having a clear objective will guide the construction of your prompt.

Be Specific: The more specific your prompt, the more tailored Copilot’s response will be. Include key details such as the topic, tone, and any specific information or format you require.

Use Clear and Concise Language: Avoid ambiguity in your prompts. Clear and concise language helps ensure that Copilot understands your request and delivers the desired output.

Provide Context: If your request relates to a previous conversation or a specific scenario, provide that context. This helps Copilot generate a response that is relevant and coherent.
